About this event
RMFI volunteers will conduct an 8-day trail maintenance expedition to rebuild and repair trails near Jones Park. RMFI is able to get provisions, supplies and equipment to the intersection of High Drive and Lower Captain Jacks Trail (#665). From there CMTRA volunteers will assist them by transporting some RMFI backpacks (approx. 20 lbs. each) to Jones Park, approximately 3.5 miles away with a 1,400' elevation gain.
The closure of Gold Camp Rd. is presenting an additional challenge this year, as CMTRA volunteers would normally stage at the Captain Jacks trailhead. RMFI is working with the City and the US Forest Service to accommodate our vehicles and get us dirt bike access to the High Drive - Lower Captain Jacks (Trail #665) intersection. More details will be provided to registered CMTRA volunteers when these accommodations are finalized.
RMFI is a well-regarded volunteer organization that cares for public lands. Helping them with their expeditions creates good will with RMFI, the City of Colorado Springs, and the US Forest Service. It also gives our advanced riders a chance to ride the popular Captain Jacks trail system mid-week, avoiding the crowds. You can learn more about RMFI at Home Page | Rocky Mountain Field Institute.
Registration is required as we will be giving away Club points and tracking volunteer hours. Thank you CMTRA volunteers!
